Ludum Dare
So another weekend and more pain!
I threw this together from some of my old art
Swing Car Alpha Release
Weekend of Code
All aboard the fail-train. We got a few submissions but it seems the cholate confusion meant this WOC failed. I got a few entries from the regulars but the final years were too busy, fair enough. The second years on the whole display no motivation to make games, expected. The first years however have no excuse!!
Well here is my little project, I'm currently converting it to GameCube cause I liked the little game so much I'm making it my semester project for the cube.
Version 0.9
In Other News: SUCCESS!!
Yes folks after all the hard work I finally work in the games industry. I've got a job at Mere Mortals. I was in a wonderful position where three companies were intrested and I got a choice. Overall I'm on the top of the moon.
Its all very scary but I'll try as soon as possible to get another podcast up as soon as possible but understandably I'm really busy.
So I will see you all and you will see that HARD WORK PAYS OFF! I'm finally after years and years, during my third degree and after all the work I have broken in.
Now just to prove myself.... no I dont wake up daily terrified..... what I dont....... I will succeed..... no really........ shit I'm late for work!
Swing Car Test
Download Test Version
Download the test version and give it a play and let me know what you think.
To play a level load run the file "swingcar.exe mytrack.trk" if you want to edit then "swingcar.exe mytrack.trk edit"
Game Controls
Left and Right arrows for car.
Then left click to shoot grapple.
Click and hold to pull yourself in (beware slippage).
Right click to release.
Editor Controls
- F1, F2, F3 : Switch between FLOOR, OBJECTS, and CHECKPOINTS
- F5, F6: Save and Load map file
- 1,2,3,4,5: Switch between add, move, insert, delete
- Space: Select next object
- Insert: Start drawing new object
- Delete: Delete Object
- Home/End: Adjust Object elaticity
- Arrows: Adjust Weight of Object
- A,S: Switch object between active and static
- Right click and drag to move screen
- Left click to perform current action
What are the limits: All objects should be convex. Oh and avoid huge or tiny objects.
Progress 7: File Savings and Loading
The editor as you can see has grown. not only can the editor do much more funky stuff with polys and adjust all their varibles. Elasticity is the bottom left, static is bottom middle, and weight is right bottom.
File Saving and Loading is all in. Of course I also had to take a time out this morning to reinstall a bunch of stuff trying to get the mega upload filebox working. Gave up in the end and I'm now using easyshare.
Oh well witness the fruits below.
Weekend of Code
Less than 24 hours left to.
Submit before noon on Monday.
submission closed
Best of Luck
Progress 6: Editor Up
So after a bit of pain and tears the editor has everything it needs. The rest is just trimming.
You can do the following...
- Draw Segments (and polys)
- Add Points
- Remove Points
- Move Points
- Refine Line (Add point on Line)
Now I just need to add file loading and saving and we can start playing those tracks. Wooooooot!
Progress 5
I've been very very busy.
Having fixed this bug
Then this one
I'm now working on the editor
Once this is done I'll work on Loading and Saving then the grappling hook.
Progress 4
It Wooooooooorks!!!!! After a day and a half of fighting with conflicting libraries my fuzzy memory nd just plain down stupidity I have all the required drawing and physics functions operating sufficiently.
So it is in a sate of bliss and happiness I retire to bed.
They may just be two little spoked circles on a flat line but they are my insignificant graphics on a working screen.
Progress 3 (and 100th post)
Yes folks 100 posts in the blog! Pity it couldn't be more significant.
I know this screen doesn't look like much but well it is. The sequence of events is as follows.
- Get PTK and Chipmunk setup and build framework.
- Discover PTK and Chipmunk screw each other over due to the one being compiled /MD and the other /MT
- Spend Hours attempt to fix this
- FAIL!!!
- Try some more with help, reinstall both libraries and tweak
- EPIC FAIL!!!
- Choose a new platform.... SDL
- Realise you haven't used SDL in over 3 years
- Go play a bit of Burnout: Paradise
- Get SDL working after a few tears
- Like a sensible person use OpenGL
- Realise you haven't coded in OpenGL in over 2 years.
- Cry some more
- With the help of X-Out and others revise your knowledge and dig up old projects to refresh memory.
- Swear at libaries
- Tinker
- Get Black Screen... run around in celebration.
- Get Lines on Screen
Intersperse that with a thumping headache, and extremly regular breaks to visit the WC (thank you being ill on a long weekend without access to doctor). Not to mention a few self inflicted incidents of head tramau as you punish yourself for a million stupid newbie mistakes.
Oh well now I can get back to the weekend of code.
WOC: Progress 2
Wooot I have a job offer for a games industry job. Went out with my Mum for Sushi last night and we caught up on gossip. Also really ill at the moment but still plowing on with the code.
Getting stuck at the moment as PTK is causing an error in Chipmunk. The two are completely unrelated so no clue why its happening. Trying to solve it at the moment.
